The material used in HMP Prison is a course grained grit stone (Bramley fall), which is used in many of the large buildings in and around the Leeds and Headingly area.
The grit stone is characteristic of many grit stones around the North West and, although it is soft in natural stone masonry terms, it is very abrasive indeed.
